Over the years I have searched for a social media space where deep conversations between interesting and educated people are the norm. With great effort, I have stumbled my way into a handful of oases, where I have met fellow travelers who opened my mind and helped me explore my questions. I am filled with love and gratitude for all of them.
But finding them has always been a chore, wading through fields of trolls, feeling like I’m swimming upstream, against the flow of algorithmic currents far beyond my control.
As Facebook gets progressively messier and less fun, many of the people I once enjoyed debating with don’t seem to show up in my newsfeed anymore. We’ve known this was coming for a while, the major social media companies have a new vision for the future – and it doesn’t include our grassroots communities anymore.
In response to all of this, we have dedicated a space within our new Virtual Chapel Network to host an ongoing dialogue about Theology and Philosophy. (There are many other spaces worth checking out too!
Several people have described the platform as a “better Facebook” with all the same features and none of the nonsense. We have messenger, polls, unique newsfeeds for every space, and so much more! Because it is being funded by several familiar contemplative communities behind the scenes, we are able to keep the network free of charge for the public.
On top of providing a workable social media alternative, our Theology and Philosophy space also offers a resource library of recorded conversations with interesting people I’ve met on the internet. The collection is organised alphabetically by topic, so you can find your niche with ease.
