I am very happy to let you all know that New Eden is partnering with Contemplative Outreach to offer an online Advent retreat in 2026. If you have missed my Sunday reflections over the last couple years, this pay-what-you-can retreat is a great opportunity to reconnect. I hope you will consider joining us!
In a previously unpublished interview, Thomas Keating described four stages of our deepening consent to the work of the Spirit in centering prayer: solitude, inner stillness, self-forgetting, and apophatic nothingness. This hidden gem explores the way Centering Prayer evolves as we mature in our practice, inspired by Keating’s personal experience and the tradition of contemplative prayer taught by mystics and monks throughout the centuries.
In this video segment, Keating sets the stage for our retreat, explaining how our spiritual practices change over time as contemplative prayer deepens. It is well worth your time to watch the whole series.
If you are receiving this in an email, click HERE to open the video on YouTube.
If you decide to take this journey with us, I will lead you on a deep dive into The Cloud of Unknowing as we unpack some of the profound, if at times obscure, practices it teaches. The Cloud is the foundation of Centering Prayer and one of my all time favourite books. I am genuinely really exited for this opportunity!
The first email each week will include a video segment from the interview with Fr. Keating, followed by my own reflection on what he has to say. There will be a zoom meeting afterwards for sharing and discussion.
The second email each week will take the form of a contemplative liturgy, based on the consent we are discussing that week, with prayers and spiritual practices intended for use by individuals or groups. In the zoom meeting afterwards, I will lead the liturgy so we can do the practices together.
